Minor Flooding | Potential for some public inconvenience, but minimal or no property damage likely. |
---|---|
Moderate Flooding | Potential for closure of secondary roads. Transfer to higher elevation may be necessary to save property. Some evacuations may be required. |
Major Flooding | Potential for extensive inundation and property damage. Usually characterized by the evacuation of people and livestock and the closure of primary and secondary roads. |
About the Southern Region River Status graphic: The graphic above depicts the current and forecast river forecast status for all 979 river forecast points monitored by the four NWS Southern Region River Forecast Centers. The graphic is updated twice an hour, at approximately :20 and :50 past the hour.
- "Observed" conditions are based on gage readings that are 4 hours old or less. Note, automated gages will occasionally transmit incorrect river heights, especially during very cold weather.
- "Forecast conditions" reflects the highest stage forecast by the River Forecast Centers. Note, the River Forecast Centers issue forecast guidance to the Weather Forecast Offices who in turn issue the "official" National Weather Service river forecasts. Click here to view all active national warnings.
- For some of these forecast points, the National Weather Service issues daily forecasts. For other points, forecasts are issued only when the river is or is forecast to be at or near flood stage.
