Over $13.6 Million Approved To Aid Illinois Disaster Victims, Just Over One Week Left to Register

SPRINGFIELD, Ill. -- More than $13.6 million in federal disaster assistance grants and loans has been approved so far by the Federal Emergency Management Agency and the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) for Illinois residents who suffered damages and losses during the severe storms and flooding June 1 through July 22.

To date, 3,095 homeowners and renters from the 18 designated counties have applied for disaster assistance.

Qualified residents in 18 counties are eligible for individual assistance from FEMA. County-by-county, the approved assistance and number of applicants as of August 14 are:

Adams County: $ 252,815.77 approved for 122 applicants

Calhoun County: $71,683.71 approved for 63 applicants

Clark County: $202,295.42 approved for 72 applicants

Coles County: $411,972.83 approved for 134 applicants

Crawford County: $177,345.33 approved for 42 applicants

Cumberland County: $14,557.26 approved for 12 applicants

Douglas County: $223,171.55 approved for 102 applicants

Edgar County:            $351,139.15 approved for 191 applicants

Hancock County: $575,244.45 approved for 172 applicants

Henderson County: $1,955,042.00 approved for 383 applicants

Jasper County: $203,159.72 approved for 44 applicants

Jersey County:           $42,766.07 approved for 80 applicants

Lake County: $60,806.72 approved for 123 applicants

Lawrence County: $300,584.50 approved for 171 applicants

Mercer County: $474,639.26 approved for 121 applicants

Rock Island County: $632,536.60 approved for 544 applicants

Whiteside County: $8,740.91 approved for 8 applicants

Winnebago County: $1,318,118.51 approved for 545 applicants

You can register with FEMA by calling 1-800-621-FEMA (3362). Applicants with a hearing- or speech-impairment who have TTY equipment should call TTY 1-800-462-7585. Operators are available daily from 6 a.m. to 11 p.m. CDT. Applicants can also register online at www.fema.gov The deadline to register is August 25, just over one week away.

The counties designated eligible for Individual Assistance are: Adams, Calhoun, Clark, Coles, Crawford, Cumberland, Douglas, Edgar, Hancock, Henderson, Jasper, Jersey, Lake, Lawrence, Mercer, Rock Island, Whiteside and Winnebago. Individual Assistance can include grants to help pay for temporary housing, essential home repairs and other necessary disaster-related expenses not covered by other sources.

FEMA coordinates the federal government's role in preparing for, preventing, mitigating the effects of, responding to, and recovering from all domestic disasters, whether natural or man-made, including acts of terror.
