Nomination Process
The annual Green Power Leadership Awards are held in conjunction with the Renewable Energy Markets conference. Nominations are typically collected in late spring for that year’s award event, which is usually held in the following fall. To receive partnership and awards updates, please contact us and indicate your interest in receiving the Green Power Planet Newsletter.
EPA’s Purchaser awards recognize exceptional achievement among EPA Green Power Partners. EPA recognizes eligible Partner organizations in the following three award categories:
- Green Power Partner of the Year: Recognizes Partners who distinguish themselves through their purchase, leadership, overall strategy, and impact on the green power market.
- On-site Generation: Recognizes Partners who distinguish themselves using on-site renewable energy applications, including, but not limited to, solar photovoltaic (PV) or wind energy projects.
- Green Power Purchase: Recognizes Partners who distinguish themselves through purchases of green power from a utility green-pricing program, a competitive green marketer, or a renewable energy certificate (REC) supplier.
Self-nominations or nominations on behalf of another party are accepted. There is no limit to the number of nominations that can be submitted per party or under any award category.

NOMINATION PERIOD OPEN UNTIL FRIDAY, MAY 29, 2009
All nominations are due by 5:00pm PDT on May 29, 2009.
Purchaser Award Eligibility
- Nominees must maintain their EPA Green Power Partner status by meeting EPA’s minimum purchase requirements. The partnership requirements are described in the Partnership Requirements (PDF) (19 pp, 690K).
- The nominee’s green power purchase must be made before the end of the Green Power Leadership Awards nomination period (Friday, May 29, 2009). A green power purchase is considered made/eligible when the electrons are flowing under contract.
- When submitting green power purchase size, baseload electricity use, percentages, or other quantifiable information, a 12 consecutive-month period must be used.
- International projects and facilities are not eligible.
- Purchasers are eligible for an award only if the Partner retires or retains ownership of the RECs associated with their purchase or on-site generation system. Partners selling RECs may replace them with a secondary green power purchase.
- Previous winners and nominees are eligible for awards in future years but will be judged based on activities since the last award cycle, in addition to their cumulative efforts.
- Eligible renewable energy resources and “new” resource requirements must be consistent with EPA’s Green Power Partnership requirements. Review the Partnership Requirements (PDF) (19 pp, 690K) for more information.
