In the past, the highest rates of hepatitis A have been found among
American Indians/Alaska Natives; however, these rates have dropped since
vaccines became available in 1995. Rates of hepatitis B continue to
decline among all racial and ethnic groups, but remain highest among
non-Hispanic blacks, with 2.9 cases per 100,000 people based on 2005
data. Most hepatitis C cases occur in adults who inject drugs.
