EPA is announcing the final report entitled Synthesis and Assessment Product 4.6: Analyses and Effects of Global Change on Human Health and Welfare and Human Systems. This report focuses on impacts of global climate change, especially impacts on three broad dimensions of the human condition: human health, human settlements, and human welfare. The report also assesses adaptive strategies that can be taken to respond to the challenges of a changing climate.

Grant Solicitation
EPA's Global Change Research Program is seeking applications proposing research to better understand the interactions of climate change, air pollution regulatory programs, greenhouse gas mitigation policies, and efforts to adapt to a changing climate, and how these interactions affect air quality. The solicitation can be found at: http://es.epa.gov/ncer/rfa/2008/2008_star_adaptation.html#Synopsis
It is estimated that approximately 7 regular grants and 3 early career grants will be awarded. Approximately $5,000,000 is available for all awards.
The solicitation is being managed by the Science to Achieve Results (STAR) grants program. Applications will be accepted between July 21 - October 21, 2008.

MARKAL Decision Support Tool
EPA's Office of Research and Development (ORD) has developed national and regional databases for use with a model also by ORD called MARKAL. These databases represent the principle components of the U.S. energy system, including current and projected energy supplies, energy demands, and the technologies that produce and consume energy. MARKAL uses this information to identify cost-effective energy pathways for the U.S. through 2050.
EPA is using MARKAL to explore the energy and emissions implications of a wide range of scenarios for the future which include factors such as climate change, changes in population growth and migration, economic growth, technology availability, and environmental and energy policies. The MARKAL databases are available to the public.
