Connecticut – EPA NE Performance Partnership Agreement (PPA) Click icon for EPA disclaimer.
The performance partnership agreement outlines the goal, mission, activities and actions that the state environmental agency will be completing during the current performance partnership cycle (usually two or three years). The partnership is between the State of Connecticut Department of Environmental Protection and EPA New England.

The Connecticut Agricultural Experiment Station works to improve crop systems and reducing damage caused by insects and plant pathogens, their programs include initiatives on reducing pesticide use, controlling invasive plants in lakes and ponds, water quality, forestry, and on food safety issues.

The Council on Environmental Quality is the state agency that monitors environmental trends in Connecticut and makes recommendations for improving state environmental policies.

The mission of the Department of Agriculture is to foster a healthy economic, environmental and social climate for agriculture by developing, promoting and regulating agricultural businesses; protecting agricultural and aquacultural resources; enforcing laws pertaining to domestic animals; and promoting an understanding among the state's citizens of the diversity of Connecticut agriculture, its cultural heritage and its contribution to the state's economy.

DECD works to provide every Connecticut citizen with the opportunity to live in attractive, safe and affordable housing. DECD monitors and analyzes the state’s housing environment and develops policies, strategies, programs and services that not only expand affordable housing opportunities, but also build a strong tax base, encourage safe streets, and empower neighborhoods and communities to flourish.

The mission of the Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) is to conserve, improve and protect the natural resources and environment of the State of Connecticut in such a manner as to encourage the social and economic development of Connecticut while preserving the natural environment and the life forms it supports in a delicate, interrelated and complex balance, to the end that the state may fulfill its responsibility as trustee of the environment for present and future generations.

To mission of the department is to protect the health and safety of the people of Connecticut and actively work to prevent disease and promote wellness through education and programs such as prenatal care, immunizations, AIDS awareness, supplemental foods, and cancer (mammography) screening; to monitor infectious diseases, environmental and occupational health hazards, and regulate health care providers such as health facilities, health professionals, and emergency medical services; to provide testing and monitoring support through the state laboratory; to collect and analyze health data to help plan policy for the future; and to be the repository for all birth, marriage and death certificates.

Rivers Alliance of Connecticut is the only statewide nonprofit dedicated to protecting and enhancing Connecticut’s rivers, streams, and watersheds.  We promote and support environmentally sound state policies, assist the state’s many watershed and river groups, and educate the public about the importance of water conservation and aquatic habitats.

The Connecticut River Watershed Council works to protect the watershed from source to sea. From alpine forests to tidal estuaries, rural farmlands to urban riverfronts, spotted salamanders to bald eagles, and mussels to salmon, the Connecticut River watershed unites a diversity of habitats, communities and resources.

The Institute focuses on matters relating to energy education, energy policy, efficiency conservation and load management, renewable energy, distributed generation, protection of environmental resources, and the dissemination of useful information on energy alternatives and sustainability to users and providers of energy.

The mission of the IEC is to protect and enhance environmental quality through cooperation, regulation, coordination, and mutual dialogue between government and citizens in the tri-state region.

The Long Island Sound Study (LISS) is a cooperative effort involving researchers, regulators, user groups and other concerned organizations and individuals.

New England Interstate Water Pollution Control Commission (NEIWPCC) Click icon for EPA disclaimer.
NEIWPCC is a nonprofit interstate agency that serves and assists—Connecticut, Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New York, Rhode Island, and Vermont—by coordinating activities and forums that encourage cooperation among the states, educating the public about key water quality issues, supporting research projects, training environmental professionals, and providing overall leadership in water management and protection.

Nonpoint Education for Municipal Officials (NEMO) Click icon for EPA disclaimer.
NEMO (Nonpoint Education for Municipal Officials) was created in the early 1990’s to provide information, education and assistance to local land use boards and commissions on how they can accommodate growth while protecting their natural resources and community character. The program was built upon the basic belief that the future of our communities and environment depend on land use, and, since land use is decided primarily at the local level, education of local land use officials is the most effective, and most cost-effective, way to bring about positive change.

Northeast States for Coordinated Air Use Management (NESCAUM) Click icon for EPA disclaimer.
NESCAUM is a nonprofit association of air quality agencies in the Northeast. Our Board of Directors consists of the air directors of the six New England states (Connecticut, Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Rhode Island, and Vermont), New Jersey, and New York. Our staff of thirty provide scientific, technical, analytical, and policy support to the air quality programs of the eight Northeast states. NESCAUM works to create effective solutions to critical clean air issues that harmonize environmental, public health, economic, and other societal goals through cutting-edge scientific research, policy analysis, outreach, and demonstration projects.

Northeast Waste Management Official’s Association (NEWMOA) Click icon for EPA disclaimer.
NEWMOA’s mission is to develop and sustain an effective partnership of states to explore, develop, promote, and implement environmentally sound solutions for the reduction and management of materials and waste, and for the remediation of contaminated sites, in order to achieve a clean and healthy environment."

The Quinnipiac River Watershed Association’s mission is to protect and restore the Quinnipiac Watershed; to raise public appreciation and understanding of its natural resources through recreational, educational, and hands-on conservation programs; and to promote recreational use of the river corridor.

The Thames River Basin Partnership is a voluntary, cooperative effort to share organizational resources and to develop a regional approach to natural resource protection. The partnership grew out of locally led workshops held by the region's Soil and Water Conservation Districts.

National Marine and Fishery Service, Northeastern Office
NOAA Fisheries is responsible for the management, conservation and protection of living marine resources within the United States Exclusive Economic Zone. NOAA Fisheries also plays a supportive and advisory role in the management of living marine resources in coastal areas under state jurisdiction, provides scientific and policy leadership in the international arena and implements international conservation and management measures as appropriate.

USDA National Resource Conservation Service Click icon for EPA disclaimer.
The Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) is an agency of the United States Department of Agriculture.  For nearly 70 years, we have worked cooperatively with landowners, conservation districts, federal, state, and local governments, and citizens from urban and rural communities to restore and enhance the landscape. NRCS soil conservationists, soil scientists, agronomists, ecologists, engineers, planners, and other specialists promote land stewardship by providing technical assistance through teams to address surface and groundwater quality; wetlands, riparian areas, and biodiversity; aquatic and terrestrial habitat; and impacts of land use changes.

The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service's mission is, working with others, to conserve, protect and enhance fish, wildlife, and plants and their habitats for the continuing benefit of the American people." We are the only agency of the U.S. Government with that primary mission.

The U.S. Geological Survey is the Nation's largest earth-science agency and has the principal responsibility within the Federal government for providing hydrologic information and for appraising the Nation's water resources.
