The U.S. Commercial Service in Calgary offers internships to Canadian graduate students (preferably business or international affairs) that are interested in working in trade promotion.
JOB DESCRIPTION
Market Research: The intern would work with international
trade specialists to write International Market Insights and
Industry SectorAnalysis Reports. (International Market Insights
are spot reports on timely market information. Industry Sector
Analysis reports are comprehensive reports on a particular
industry sector in Canada). Both types of market research reports
highlight opportunities for U.S. companies to export their
products and services to Canada. The majority of the interns'
time would be spent on these market research reports, which are
published in major U.S. government websites.
Trade Development and Promotion:
We respond to requests for individual U.S. companies to assist in
finding agents/distributors or to arrange meetings for a business
trip to Canada. Our office also occasionally receives request
from cities or states to help plan a trade mission to Alberta. If
there are trade missions during the intern's time in our office,
the intern would assist in identifying appropriate Canadian
companies and arranging meetings.
General Trade Inquiries:
Our office receives numerous requests for information from U.S.
companies with questions about doing business in Canada. We also
receive requests from Canadian companies that are interested in
sourcing U.S. products or services. The intern would prepare
responses to some of these requests.
We are currently accepting applications for Spring and Summer internships. Please note that this is an unpaid internship and you must be enrolled as a graduate student at the time of application.
