Draft of updated table formats for personal consumption expenditures (PCE)
A major change in the 2009 comprehensive revision of the NIPAs will be the incorporation of a new classification system for personal consumption expenditures (PCE). The new PCE classification system will define new categories of expenditures by function and by type of product. Because of these changes in the PCE categories, the NIPA publication tables for PCE will change effective with the release of the 2009 comprehensive revision estimates on July 31, 2009.
More information about the new PCE categories, including restated estimates based on the new categories for selected years, is available in Preview of the 2009 Comprehensive Revision of the NIPAs: New Classifications for Personal Consumption Expenditures from the May 2008 Survey of Current Business.
The draft publication stubs for these updated tables are linked individually below. A single file with all the PCE table stubs is available in ASCII format. The publication stubs are subject to revision until the July 31, 2009 release.
For questions relating to the new classification system, please contact Michael Armah, Chief of the PCE branch at Michael.Armah@bea.gov.
