Eleventh Annual Capital City Consular Corps Luncheon – May 20, 2008

The Eleventh Annual Capital City Consular Corps Luncheon on May 20, 2008 was presented by The Northern California World Trade Center and co-hosted by the Sacramento Metropolitan Chamber of Commerce. The event was a collaborative effort with the following supporting partners: The presenting sponsor was the Sacramento County Airport Systems; the event sponsor was the University of California, Davis; the executive sponsors included the Center for International Trade Development, PASCO Scientific, the office of Mayor Heather Fargo, and the Sister Cities Council of Sacramento; with display booths for the Department of Commerce, U.S. Commercial Service; California State University Sacramento, College of Continuing Education; and the Sacramento Municipal Utility District (SMUD).

Opening remarks were given by Matt Mahood, President & CEO of the Sacramento Metropolitan Chamber of Commerce. Cheryl Marcell of the Sacramento County Airport Systems introduced the keynote speaker Ambassador Charles S. Shapiro, Senior Coordinator of the Western Hemisphere Free Trade Task Force, Department of State. Ambassador Shapiro spoke about the benefits of free trade agreements to the United States economy. Immediately following, Ambassador Shapiro and Sacramento Export Assistance Center Director George Tastard of the Department of Commerce, U.S. Commercial Service, awarded Kerrin West of BSB Design the U.S. Department of Commerce’s Export Achievement Certificate for their excellence in exporting. Closing remarks were given by Brice Harris, Chancellor of the Los Rios Community College District.

The Eleventh Annual Consular Corps Luncheon was a tremendous success with approximately 200 guests in attendance. With a dynamic mix of Consul Generals and staff from over 40 countries, California international business leaders and California political officials, the event provided an excellent opportunity for guests to meet with other international business professionals, share and discover new business prospects, and celebrate the success of local businesses with international endeavors. At the luncheon, Director George Tastard met new clients and maintained communication with existing clients and partners.
