 Grants and Funding

Image: MoneyEPA fosters the development of new environmental technologies by providing:

Financial Support for small private companies, universities, or other nonprofit organizations to develop new technologies. Financial support is available from the following programs:

  • Small Business Innovative Research (SBIR) program, which provides assistance to small businesses
  • Science to Achieve Results (STAR) competitive grants program, which provides support to universities and nonprofit organizations
  • National Environmental Technology Competition (NETC), which recognizes and rewards innovative and cost-effective technology solutions developed by private companies in high-priority areas

In-Kind Support by working collaboratively with private or government laboratories to share facilities and expertise in technology development under Cooperative Research and Development Agreements (CRADAs).

Verification and Assessment Support through independent quality-assured data on environmental performance, operational reliability, and cost, which are sometimes lacking in order for new technologies to be successfully ushered into the marketplace. EPA-supported verification fills this information gap by providing technology developers with data they can use to convince buyers to buy.
