2008-2009 College & University Green Power Challenge Champions

2008-2009 College & University Green Power Challenge Champions

Throughout the 2008-09 academic year, EPA’s Green Power Partnership tracked green power purchasing of colleges and universities across collegiate athletic conferences. To participate in the Challenge and be listed, a college or university must be in a conference with an aggregate green power purchase of at least 10 million kilowatt-hours (kWh) between its member institutions. All purchasers must be Green Power Partners in good standing. These conferences and their representative schools are displaying environmental leadership by buying green power to reduce the environmental impacts associated with their conventional electricity use.

EPA has recognized the leaders listed below as Green Power Challenge Champions for 2008-2009. There are two separate award categories for EPA’s 2008-2009 College & University Green Power Challenge:

  1. Individual Conference Champions – Recognizes the largest individual institutional green power purchaser within an eligible athletic conference
  2. Champion Green Power Conference – Recognizes the largest collective green power purchase among eligible athletic conferences

How can my institution get involved?

Schools interested in taking part in the 2009-2010 College & University Green Power Challenge can start by purchasing green power and partnering with EPA. For more information please visit the Join Us Web page, or contact Blaine Collison (collison.blaine@epa.gov) at 202-343-9139.

This list is current as of April 7, 2009.

Individual Conference Champions

The following colleges and universities were recognized for their individual green power purchase among all respective schools in their conference. EPA applauds these schools for taking a leadership role in their conference and in supporting a better environmental future:
