At the National Professional Training Conference on Responding to Crime Victims with Disabilities (September 30–October 2, 2009), the Bureau of Justice Statistics will present the first findings about nonfatal violent and property crime experienced by persons with disabilities drawn from the National Crime Victimization Survey, one of the two measures of crime produced by the Department of Justice. OVC announces the conference on Mass Casualty and Violence at Home and Abroad—OVC Assisting Victims of Crime, to be held October 19-21, 2009, in Arlington, Virginia. The conference will bring together first responders, victim service professionals, policymakers, and experts in mass violence.

OVC is accepting nominations for the National Crime Victims’ Service Awards, which recognize individuals and organizations that demonstrate outstanding service in supporting victims and victim services. Nominations are due September 30, 2009.

The Office of Management and Budget has issued “Implementing Guidance for the Reports on Use of Funds Pursuant to the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009.” See Recovery Act Funding and OVC for more information.

Nominate an Outstanding Victim Services Professional (August 2009)

The nomination period for the 2010 National Crime Victims’ Service Awards is now open through September 30, 2009. Use the online nomination form to nominate individuals and programs for their outstanding efforts on behalf of crime victims. Visit the nomination Web site for additional information on how to submit a nomination, details about each award, and submission guidelines. The honorees will be announced at the prelude events for National Crime Victims' Rights Week (April 18-24, 2010).

Conference Scholarships Are Available (August 2009)

A limited number of scholarships are available for individuals working in victim services, disability services, and law enforcement to participate in the National Professional Training Conference on Responding to Crime Victims with Disabilities on September 30–October 2, 2009, in Denver, Colorado.
