Asian and Pacific Islander American Health Forum (APIAHF)
"Strengthening Existing National Organizations Serving Racial and Ethnic
Populations Capacity Development Programs: Strategies to Advance Program
Implementation, Coordination, Management, and Evaluation Efforts." |

OMHD funds the Asian American and Pacific
Islander Health Forum (APIAHF) to promote the health and well being of Asian
Americans and Pacific Islanders (AAPI) through develop capacity of
community-based organizations (CBOs) and coalitions to meet the health needs of
AAPIs communities by providing leadership in public and community health
practices, collaboration and partnerships. |
|
APIAHF has implemented culturally and linguistically appropriate health
education; promote ethnic media, social marketing and capacity building
assistance projects targeting AAPIs. |
|
|
|
APIAHF principal goals are: |

The purpose of the program announcement is to: |
|
It is anticipated that the project will produce leaders in community-based
public health that will have the ability to advice, design, implement and
evaluate AAPI policy analysis and health education to eliminate health
disparities in HIV/AIDS, cancer, diabetes among AAPIs through community capacity
building and leadership development in AAPI communities. Program outcomes
represent measurable advances in CDC’s Health Protection Goals and Healthy
People 2010. |

Association of Asian Pacific Community Health
Organizations (AAPCHO)
"Strengthening Existing National Organizations Serving Racial and Ethnic
Populations Capacity Development Programs: Strategies to Advance Program
Implementation, Coordination, Management, and Evaluation Efforts." |

OMHD funds the Association of Asian Pacific Community Health Organization (AAPCHO)
to build organizational capacity to increase access to quality culturally
appropriate health care for underserved Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders (AAPIs). |
|
AAPCHO and its 23 community-based member organizations (CHC) located in
communities with high concentrations of medically underserved Asian Americans
and Pacific Islanders have developed, coordinated and implemented at least 6
national/regional health education prevention and promotion programs that
address risk factors and disease prevention for AAPIs in at least 5 AAPI health
disparity areas (diabetes, cancer, HIV/AIDS, tuberculosis, hepatitis B). Each
program emphasizes training, technical assistance, and the development of
resources for CHCs and other organizations. |
