American Indian & Alaska Native (AI/AN) Epidemiology Centers

Tribal epidemiology centers are a critical element of the CDC/Indian Health Service (IHS) partnership to improve the health and well-being of AI/AN populations.  Activities include surveillance for disease conditions, epidemiological analysis, interpretation, and dissemination of surveillance data, investigation of disease outbreaks, development and implementation of epidemiological studies, development and implementation of disease control and prevention programs, and coordination of activities with other public health authorities in the region.

Collaborates with 27 Southwestern American Indian Tribes to provide health-related research, surveillance, and training to improve the quality of life of American Indians. Contact AASTEC

Develops Tribally directed epidemiology and public health services that enable Tribes' to assess individual and community health status, improve ability to plan, conduct and manage their local public health services for their communities in coordination with other health authorities.
