Celebrating International Migratory Bird Day
International Migratory Bird Day (IMBD) is an annual event to celebrate and support migratory bird conservation.  Like clockwork, each spring many migratory birds return to or fly over environments like Yellowstone National Park en route to their breeding areas. Yellowstone and the Grizzly and Wolf Discovery Center staff will celebrate IMBD on Sunday, May 10, with programs and a field trip that are open to the public.

Yellowstone Completes Wi-Fi and Cell Phone Plan
Yellowstone National Park has completed a plan which addresses the future of wireless communications in the park.  Wireless communications in Yellowstone will be allowed in very limited areas to provide for visitor safety and to enhance park operations.  The plan restricts towers, antennas, and wireless services to a few limited locations in the park, in order to protect park resources and limit the impact on park visitors.

Roads to Canyon and Old Faithful Open Friday Morning
Visitors will once again be able to drive into portions of the interior of Yellowstone National Park starting this weekend.  The roads through the North and West Entrances to Norris, Madison, Canyon and Old Faithful are set to re-open to car and RV traffic as scheduled at 8:00 a.m., Friday, April 17.

Firewood Permits Available Soon
Yellowstone National Park will soon be accepting the names of individuals interested in receiving firewood collection permits during 2009.  Excess firewood is periodically available in the park due to such events as wildland fire fuel mitigation, strong winds, construction projects, or hazard tree removal.

Yellowstone Bears are Waking Up
As the snow melts and spring begins to emerge, so do bears from their dens.  Tracks from an undetermined species of bear were spotted March first on Specimen Ridge, and tracks from a grizzly were spotted on March third along the Tower Fall Ski trail.

Spring Plowing Begins in Yellowstone
The winter season is drawing to a close in Yellowstone National Park.  Limited, managed snowmobile and snowcoach travel on the park's interior roads ends between March 1 and March 15.  Once the roads close to oversnow travel, crews begin to clear them of snow so they can reopen to automobile travel in the spring.

Yellowstone National Park is ready to open for the 2008-2009 winter season as scheduled next Monday, December 15. Travel through the East Entrance over Sylvan Pass begins a week later. However, if the current limited snowpack on park roads does not significantly improve this weekend, access to the interior of the park may be temporarily limited to certain types of vehicles.
