Three-axis ultrasonic anemometers are used to study airflow in the NIOSH ventilation gallery, where ventilation in an underground mine is simulated. In this study, performance characteristics of this anemometer are evaluated, and the effects of sensor orientation and sampler location on flow readings are examined. The results of the study provide guidelines for more effective use of the ultrasonic anemometers in the ventilation gallery.
