The International Trade Division (ITD) of the Louisiana Economic Development (LED) has a primary function of facilitating the export of Louisiana goods and services. The ITD provides services to Louisiana and its companies by assisting businesses with all aspects of international trade, and supporting ports and airports in their efforts to increase the volume handled by their facilities. The LED maintains three foreign offices to further assist in the ITD functions in Mexico City, Germany, and Taiwan.

District Export Councils (DECs) are organizations of leaders from the local business community, appointed by the U.S. Secretary of Commerce, whose knowledge of international business provides a source of professional advice for local firms. DEC members volunteer their time to sponsor and participate in numerous trade promotion activities, as well as to supply specialized expertise to small and medium-sized businesses that are interested in exporting.

The Louisiana International Trade Center was created under the University of New Orleans to increase the number of Louisiana businesses involved in international trade, and foster economic development. The Southern United States Association (SUSTA) is a non-profit agricultural export trade development association for the 15 southern states and Puerto Rico. SUSTA provides international marketing services for food and agricultural exporters and foreign importers through numerous activities such as trade mission, trade shows, buyer's missions, trade leads and export development programs. SUSTA also administers programs for USDA that provides financial reimbursement of approved foreign marketing and promotional expenses incurred by small companies for U.S. food and agricultural products.
