Remote Access
The remote access system, Analytic Data Retrieval
by Email (ANDRE), allows researchers to communicate with an automated
system via email to analyze RDC data. Remote access provides the
convenience of performing analysis from any computer at any time but it
has several limitations.
- Remote access is designed for researchers
who are proficient with SAS and SUDAAN. These are the only
statistical packages available through ANDRE.
- Users must register a secure
university, government or corporate email address. Free or
web-based email accounts cannot be used, even in forwarding mode.
- All users, regardless of access mode (on site
or remote) must complete the proposal process and the three
confidentially forms.
Rules and Restrictions
Consider all of the rules and restrictions of
the remote system along with your research needs before deciding to
use it as your mode of access.
Rules for Usage
SAS/SUDAAN Procedure Restrictions
- At NO time will researchers be able
to see individual data records (microdata). Researchers send SAS/SUDAAN code
via email, and receive their output via email, without direct access to
the data.
- Remote access
researchers can use ONLY standard SAS and SUDAAN statistical
procedures to carry out their analyses. Macros are not
allowed. If you wish to use other statistical software such as STATA, HLM,
or SPSS, you must conduct your research on site.
- The remote access system CANNOT allow
certain SAS/SUDAAN procedures. Please read the SAS/SUDAAN
Procedure Restrictions.
- Output that poses a disclosure risk will
be suppressed. Any cell that contains 5 or fewer observations
will be suppressed. Additional cells or values may be suppressed to
maintain confidentiality (complementary suppression).
