Helicopter Emergency Egress Device (HEED)The HEED is a small self-contained breathing tank. It holds about 2 - 5 minutes of breathing air. Training is required to insure:
HEED training normally requires 1/2 day of classroom training with 1/2 day pool "work". There are several different "generations" in-use; each with their own characteristics. NOTE: This device is not mandatory for flight, but the training is required prior to issue or if a HEED is to be carried during a NOAA mission. The required training is waived for those personnel who hold a current PADI open water certification or who have had documented NOAA or Navy Dive Training.
