ocean for lifeOcean for Life
The Ocean for Life program is an initiative to increase cultural understanding through ocean science. Ocean for Life will provide high quality, immersive ocean field studies and follow-on education programs to facilitate cross-cultural learning, appreciation, and lasting experiences between Middle Eastern and Western students. Student applications are due February 27, 2009.

Ocean Science Field Studies with National Geographic Society
Select teacher and student teams from around the country participate in a variety of field and laboratory-based activities focused on national marine sanctuaries and ocean conservation. The National Marine Sanctuary Program in partnership with National Geographic promotes the understanding of America’s underwater treasures through first hand experiences. These hands-on ocean field studies are based on educational standards, including subject areas such as geology, science, water systems, habitat monitoring and exploration.

Learning opportunities for youth that brings them into direct contact with the Olympic Coast, mixes traditional outdoor education with marine sciences and blends personal outdoor skill building and hands-on, field-based science.

Ocean CouncilStudent Ocean Council at Gray’s Reef
For upper level high school students from local, public and private schools in Savannah who have a desire to learn more about ocean science related careers and subjects.

ClassroomCoral Reef Classroom
Free educational excursions to the reef in the Florida Keys National Marine Sanctuary for local students and teachers highlighting environmental stewardship. The objectives of Coral Reef Classroom are to teach basic coral reef biology and concepts of habitat interdependence by engaging students in activities such as water quality sampling, data collection, and evaluation.

Fagatele Bay childrenMarine Science Summer Camp
Each three-week session offered in American Samoa features a strong marine science curriculum, field and laboratory studies, and swimming and snorkeling lessons.

Humpback Whales in Hawai`i
Learn more about humpback whales, their natural history, human cultural connection and more.

ExplorersSanctuary Explorer Camp
This week-long day camp takes place in a coastal setting and provides opportunities for economically disadvantaged children to experience the wonders of the ocean environment.
