‘Green’ Initiatives Protect Environment, Save Money, Support Security

BAGHDAD – Ensuring energy use is both environmentally friendly and saves costs is a key support to building Iraqi security capabilities, a key infrastructure planner said here Aug. 10.

According to Lt. Col. Thomas N. Williams, a MNSTC-I J7 planner for infrastructure, Multi-National Security Transition Command-Iraq has found that the best way to be both environmentally friendly and save costs is by ensuring the highest energy efficiency possible. This is because command leaders believe energy efficiency impacts both the environment with air pollution and climate change, and the economy with high fuel costs, William told MNSTC-I staff.
