The Iraqis celebrate Sovereignty Day by reviewing the Iraqi Security Forces represented by the leadership of the military ground forces, naval and air operations and the civil defense leadership from Baghdad, Diyala, Karbala, Basra and Samarra, on June 30, 2009.

The arrival ceremony was attended by Abdul Al Qadir Iraqi Minister of Defense, Mr. Maurizio Milani, Italian Ambassador to Iraq, Iraqi Staff Lt. Gen Anwar, Air Force Commander, U.S. Air Force Maj. Gen. (S) Robert Kane, acting commanding general, MNSTC-I ITAM-Air Force,  U.S. Navy Rear Admiral Thomas Cropper, Deputy Commander U.S. Naval Forces Central Command.

9th Regional Commando Battalion had a ribbon cutting ceremony at Al-Asad Air Base on June 4, 2009.

Baghdad Police College held an International Media Day on June 2, 2009 to highlight and showcase the different types of training that it conducts in preparation for the Iraqi Police to take over full control of internal security of Iraq in fulfillment of the Security Agreement signed between the U.S. and Iraq.

The Ministry of Interior graduated the first ever all-female Shurta class       January 26.  The graduation, held at the Baghdad Police College, was the culmination of four weeks of training for the 490 policewomen.  The new graduates will participate in security operations during tomorrow’s provincial elections.

Al-Muthana Military Hospital & Prosthetics Clinic celebrated its grand-opening in Baghdad January 19. The facilities will provide Iraqi Security Force members with their own dedicated Level III hospital and amputee rehabilitation services.

241 Iraqi Army and 134 Iraqi Air Force cadets graduated from the Basic Officers Commissioning Course at Ar Rustamiyah Military Academy Jan. 11. The 12-month Commissioning Course emphasized leadership and ethics training while instilling values and standards required of future leaders of the Iraqi Military.

On January 9, the 87th Iraqi Police Day was celebrated at the Baghdad Police College.  The Prime Minister, the event’s keynote speaker, has been quoted by several media outlets as having said: "We changed the [Iraqi] Police from a broken apparatus, based on sectarianism ... into a coherent, professional one.”

On Tuesday, The Iraqi Mine/Unexploded Ordnance Clearance Organization (IMCO) commemorated the destruction of the 25,000th confiscated weapon at the IMCO facility located in the International Zone.
