China hosts this year's Summer Olympic Games from August 8-24. This will be the third time the Olympics are held under the jurisdiction of two National Olympic Committees - mainland China and Hong Kong compete separately. Hosting the Summer Games is an important event in China's history and the government considers it a symbol of its increasing power and international influence.Athletes will be competing in 302 events in 28 sports held in various Chinese cities.
