Disparities in tuberculosis persist among racial and ethnic minority populations in the United States but as of 2005, the burden of the disease is shifting. For the third consecutive year, Hispanics (30%) exceeded non-Hispanic blacks or African Americans (27%) as the racial/ethnic group with the largest percentage of total cases. Hispanics and Asians together represent almost 80% of TB in foreign-born persons and accounted for 45% of the national case total. Blacks or African Americans represent 19% of the national case total and 44% of the US born total.
