Arizona Wind Energy Assessments: Developable Windy Land and Economic Benefits Date: 4/1/2007Location: AZEight counties in Arizona were analyzed: Apache County, Cochise County, Coconino County, Graham County, Mohave County, Navajo County, Greenlee County, and Yavapai County.
Six of these eight counties had two wind energy analyses completed. In the first analysis, the developable wind energy capacity was estimated using a geographic information system.
Specifically, the amount of windy land by wind class in each county was determined. Development exclusions were then applied and the developable windy land was determined. The second analysis determined the economic impact of constructing a wind energy project in the county. Utilizing National Renewable Energy Laboratory's Job and Economic Development Impact (NREL's JEDI) model in conjunction with Monte Carlo simulation, economic benefits categorized by jobs, earnings, and economic output were estimated for three different sized wind energy projects, 10.5 MW, 60 MW and 180 MW.
Greenlee County and Yavapai County only had the first analysis completed, the developable wind energy capacity.
