TRANSPORTATION

Transportation

As the designated Metropolitan Planning Organization (MPO) for the Maricopa region, MAG plans and finances the regional transportation system. These responsibilities include the preparation of:

Regional Transportation Plan (RTP)
The RTP provides the overall plan or framework for all modes of transportation over the next two decades.

Transportation Improvement Program (TIP)
This is a schedule of specific transportation infrastructure projects to be constructed or implemented across the region over the next three to five years.

Arterial Life Cycle Program (ALCP)
The Arterial Life Cycle Program (ALCP) provides management and oversight for the street projects contained in the Regional Transportation Plan (RTP). The ALCP is a key safeguard that was part of Proposition 400 and represents more than $1.8 billion of investment over the next 20 years.

Traffic Data, Forecasts and Modeling
Transportation data such as volumes or road counts and modeling results used to support regional transportation planning activities are available here. Traffic count maps can be found here.

Intelligent Transportation Systems Program
Intelligent Transportation Systems, or ITS, is the application of technology based solutions such as advanced sensors, computers, electronics and communication technologies, to improve the overall safety and efficiency of the regional multimodal transportation system. The program helps coordinate regional activities, meet federal requirements and recommend ITS infrastructure investments in the region.

Transportation Safety Planning Program
This program, launched in 2001, has begun identifying key regional transportation safety issues and needs, and possible steps for addressing them through initiatives at state, regional and local levels. MAG Transportation Safety Stakeholders Group was formed in November 2001 to guide this effort.

Transportation Studies and Reports
This page provides a categorized list of current and recently completed transportation studies and final reports.

Federal Stimulus Legislation
MAG member agencies have submitted projects to MAG staff that they have identified to be ready in a timely manner upon receipt of federal funding. MAG staff has compiled the projects and funding amounts and will offer them to members of the Arizona congressional delegation to inform them of regional opportunities as it relates to transportation and infrastructure development.

MAG Transportation Data Management System
This traffic counts data retrieval system serves as a primary data management tool for region wide traffic counts information; it provides for storage, efficient management, update, analysis and retrieval of all traffic counts data available at MAG; it also provides user-friendly Web-based access to the traffic counts data for the MAG member agencies, consulting and business community, and general public.

New transportation data and data management tools will be posted on the site as a part of the ongoing site development effort.
