EAGLE PASS, Texas -- Community Relations (CR) teams comprised of state, local volunteers and Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) personnel are busy reaching out to those affected by the severe storms and tornadoes of April 21-24.

These teams are canvassing neighborhoods and spreading the word that disaster aid is available. They deliver vital disaster recovery information to storm victims as well as coordinate with county emergency managers and other local officials.

Currently there are three teams in Maverick County, four teams in the Panhandle Counties of Moore and Swisher, and two teams in Denton County. These effective teams have reached more than 150 business, churches, schools, and community-based organizations and have reached more than 800 disaster-affected residents. They provide valuable information on how to register for assistance as well as the location of the nearest Disaster Recovery Center.

"As soon as a disaster is declared, CR teams mobilize quickly and work directly with citizens by going door to door and covering every level of the local community," said Federal Coordinating Officer Tony Russell. "CR officers are a lifeline for valuable disaster recovery information for residents, local governments, businesses, religious organizations and volunteer agencies."

CR teams continue to encourage those who have damages and losses as a result of the storms to register with FEMA by calling 1-800-621-FEMA (3362) or (TTY 1-800-462-7585). Lines are open daily from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.

The Governor’s Division of Emergency Management (GDEM) and FEMA continue to work closely with community-based organizations, community leaders, and public officials.

FEMA coordinates the federal government’s role in preparing for, preventing, mitigating the effects of, responding to, and recovering from all domestic disasters, whether natural or man-made, including acts of terror.
