	This page contains links to online databases that may be related to water and agriculture. These databases contain such information as bibliographic citations, current research, streamflow data, species information, and chemical and toxicology data. 	AgNIC Agriculture Network Information Center. Database of agricultural information resources, including information on water.

AGRICOLA
USDA. National Agricultural Library.
Bibliographic database of citations to the agricultural literature created by the National Agricultural Library and its cooperators. Production of these records in electronic form began in 1970, but the database covers materials in all formats, including printed works from the 15th century. The records describe publications and resources encompassing all aspects of agriculture and allied disciplines, including animal and veterinary sciences, entomology, plant sciences, forestry, aquaculture and fisheries, farming and farming systems, agricultural economics, extension and education, food and human nutrition, and earth and environmental sciences.

	Agricultural Research Service Water Database USDA. Agricultural Research Service. Collection of precipitation and streamflow data from small agricultural watersheds in the United States.

AQUASTAT
UN. Food and Agriculture Organization.
"The Food and Agriculture Organization's (FAO) global information system of water and agriculture developed by the Land and Water Development Division of FAO. The objective of AQUASTAT is to provide users with comprehensive information on the state of agricultural water management across the world, with emphasis on developing countries and countries in transition."

APIRS Online: The Aquatic, Wetland, and Invasive Plants Database
University of Florida. Institute of Food and Agricultural Sciences.
"A free online resource devoted to freshwater aquatic and wetland plants, as well as terrestrial and aquatic invasive plants. The database includes annotated citations for more than 65,000 research articles, books and reports about plant ecology, physiology, utilization and control. Items in many languages dating back to the 18th century are in this inclusive database."

	Atlantic Coastal Information Portal Atlantic Coastal Zone Information Steering Committee. "An online catalogue of geospatial data. ACIP is Atlantic Canada’s window on the GeoConnections Discovery Portal, which enables the discovery of and access to geospatial data for Canada. ACIP was implemented in May 2005. It is the latest phase in the development of the Atlantic Coastal Database Directory which was initiated by the Atlantic Coastal Zone Information Steering Committee (ACZISC) in 1992."

	ChemBioFinder CambridgeSoft Corporation. A chemical database that provides physical property data and 2D chemical structures; also gives access to " the largest single list of chemical information sites (by at least double the size of the next-largest) that we [ChemFinder] are aware of."

	Current Research Information Systems USDA. Cooperative State Research, Education, and Extension Service. Documentation and reporting system for publicly supported agricultural, food and nutrition, and forestry research in the United States.

Drinking Water Research Information Network

"A portal to information on projects funded or performed by water research organizations, government agencies in the U.S., international research organizations and academic institutions focused on drinking water issues. It is a compilation of drinking water project information from partner organizations that creates a single source of ongoing research."

	DUCKDATA DOI. USGS. Patuxent Wildlife Research Center. Bibliographic database for North American waterfowl and their wetland habitats.

	EnviroMapper for Water EPA. Office of Water. "A web-based Geographic Information System application that dynamically displays information about bodies of water in the United States. This interactive tool allows you to create customized maps that portray the nation's surface waters along with a collection of environmental data."

	Environmental Fate Data Base Syracuse Research Corporation. The purpose of this database is "1. To allow rapid access to all available fate data on a given chemical without having to resort to expensive, time consuming, and inefficient primary literature searches; 2. To identify critical gaps in the available information to facilitate planning of research needs; and 3. To provide a data source for constructing structure-activity correlations for degradability and transport of chemicals in the environment." 	Enviro-Science e-Print Service EPA. Environmental Information Management System. Provides access to "manuscripts of journal articles and book chapters, conference papers, presentations, posters, and selected technical reports in environmental management science."

	Extension Toxicology Network (EXTOXNET) Oregon State University. Information available includes toxicology newsletters and fact sheets and keyword searchable Pesticide Information Profiles and Toxicology Information Briefs.

	FishBase FishBase.org. "Global information system with all you ever wanted to know about fishes. FishBase is a relational database with information to cater todifferent professionals such as research scientists, fisheries managers, zoologists and many more. FishBase on the web contains practically all fish species known to science."

	Integrated Risk Information System (IRIS) Database for Risk Assessment Environmental Protection Agency. "The Integrated Risk Information System (IRIS), prepared and maintained by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (U.S. EPA), is an electronic database containing information on human health effects that may result from exposure to various chemicals in the environment. IRIS was initially developed for EPA staff in response to a growing demand for consistent information on chemical substances for use in risk assessments, decision-making and regulatory activities. The information in IRIS is intended for those without extensive training in toxicology, but with some knowledge of health sciences."

	Little River Watershed (Georgia) Precipitation and Streamflow Data USDA. ARS. Southeast Watershed Research Laboratory. Archived data sets from the Agricultural Research Service, Southeast Watershed Research Laboratory in Tifton, Georgia.

	Locate Your Watershed Environmental Protection Agency. Part of the Environmental Protection Agency's Surf Your Watershed site where you can get various types of information--including an Index of Watershed Indicators--about specific watersheds in the United States.

	Measured Annual Nutrient loads from AGricultural Environments (MANAGE) Database USDA. ARS. Grassland Soil and Water Research Laboratory. Compilation of "measured annual nitrogen (N) and phosphorus (P) load data representing field-scale transport from agricultural land uses." Includes "measured nutrient load data and corresponding watershed characteristics; information to support water quality management, modeling, and future research design; and a platform allowing user input of additional project-specific data."

	Media Source Directory of (Environmental) Experts (in Eastern and Central Europe) Regional Environmental Center for Central and Eastern Europe. "Designed to help journalists get the information they need about the environment of Central and Eastern Europe (CEE) by making it easier to find interview subjects. The database contains contact information for over 1,000 English-speaking environmental experts, with a variety of specialties, from 15 CEE countries."

National Contaminant Occurrence Database
EPA. Office of Water.
"EPA developed the NCOD to satisfy the statutory requirements set by Congress in the 1996 amendments to the Safe Drinking Water Act (SDWA) to maintain a national drinking water contaminant occurrence database using samples data for both regulated and unregulated contaminants in public water systems. This site provides a listing of water sample analytical data that EPA is currently using and has used in the past for analysis, rulemaking, and rule evaluation. The data have been extensively checked for data quality and analyzed for national representative-ness."

National Environmental Methods Index
Environmental Protection Agency; DOI. United States Geological Survey.
Provides "a mechanism to compare and contrast the performance and relative cost of analytical, test, and sampling methods for environmental monitoring." The index can be used to compare methods based on analyte, media and performance data. NEMI is a project of the Methods and Data Comparability Board, developed with funding from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and the U.S. Geological Survey.

	National Estuaries Restoration Inventory DOC. National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration. "Created to track estuary habitat restoration projects across the nation. The purpose of the inventory is to provide information on restoration projects in order to improve restoration methods and to track acreage restored toward the Act's one million-acre goal." [NOAA requires certificate authorization for access to this site.]

	National Hydrography Dataset DOI. United States Geological Survey. "A comprehensive set of digital spatial data that contains information about surface water features such as lakes, ponds, streams, rivers, springs and wells. Within the NHD, surface water features are combined to form "reaches," which provide the framework for linking water-related data to the NHD surface water drainage network. These linkages enable the analysis and display of these water-related data in upstream and downstream order."

	National Nutrient Database EPA. Office of Water. "Stores and analyzes nutrient water quality data and serves as an information resource for states, tribes, and others in establishing scientifically defensible numeric nutrient criteria. It contains ambient data from our Legacy STOrage and RETrieval (STORET) data system, the US Geological Survey's National Stream Quality Accounting Network data and National Water Quality Assessment data, and other relevant sources such as universities and states/tribes. The ultimate use of the data is to derive ecoregional waterbody-specific numeric nutrient criteria. We will also use this database to develop ecoregionally representative nutrient criteria for all waterbodies of the United States."

	National Water Quality Standards Database Environmental Protection Agency. "Developed for the purposes of displaying water quality standards, including designated uses and criteria, for the Nation's surface waters."

	National Wetlands Inventory DOI. Fish and Wildlife Service. Provides wetlands maps from the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service.

	National Wetlands Research Center Publications and Information Products DOI. United States Geological Survey. Database of studies and reports from this organization within the USGS. Note: The database may not display properly when using Netscape (Aug 24, 2005).

	Ohio Tributary Monitoring Data Heidelberg College. Water Quality Laboratory. "Since 1974, the Heidelberg College Water Quality Laboratory has collected more than 90,000 water samples as part of its Ohio Tributary Monitoring Program. These samples have all been collected at U.S. Geological Stream Gaging Stations and have been analyzed for major nutrients and suspended solids. The sampling program has been designed to provide accurate and long-term pollutant loading data for Ohio's major tributaries to Lake Erie and the Ohio River. The data also provide uniquely detailed information on ambient water quality in the streams and support investigations on pollutant sources and transport."

	PAN Pesticide Database Pesticide Action Network. "Brings together a diverse array of information on pesticides from many different sources, providing human toxicity (chronic and acute), ecotoxicity and regulatory information for about 6,400 pesticide active ingredients and their transformation products, as well as adjuvants and solvents used in pesticide products."

Pesticide Properties Database

"A compendium of chemical and physical properties of 334 widely used pesticides. Information included in the database focuses on 16 of the most important properties that affect pesticide transport and degradation characteristics."


	Publications Warehouse DOI. United States Geological Survey. "The reports and thematic maps database currently contains more than 67,000 bibliographic citations [as of Jan 13, 2005], including numbered series begun as early as 1882. Citations and online documents are added regularly. Availability of content ranges from full text to bibliographic citation only."

	RiverMap.org Leopold Center for Sustainable Agriculture. "An on-line database and interactive mapping system that highlights work by organizations and individuals to improve water quality and reduce practices that contribute to formation of the Dead Zone in the Gulf of Mexico."

	Safe Drinking Water Information System Environmental Protection Agency. Provides access to information about Safe Drinking Water Act violations and enforcement history for public water supplies during the last ten years; also see Safe Drinking Water Overview for more information.

Sea Grant Nonindigenous Species Site
National Sea Grant College Program.
Project of the National Sea Grant College Program, produced by the Great Lakes Sea Grant Network. It is a national information center that contains a comprehensive collection of research publications and education materials produced by Sea Grant programs and other research institutions across the country on zebra mussels and other aquatic nuisance species.


	STORET Environmental Protection Agency. "The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency maintains two data management systems containing water quality information for the nation's waters: the Legacy Data Center (LDC), and STORET. The LDC contains historical water quality data dating back to the early part of the 20th century and collected up to the end of 1998. STORET contains data collected beginning in 1999, along with older data that has been properly documented and migrated from the LDC. Both systems contain raw biological, chemical, and physical data on surface and ground water collected by federal, state and local agencies, Indian Tribes, volunteer groups, academics, and others. All 50 States, territories, and jurisdictions of the U.S. are represented in these systems."

StreamStats

"A Web-based tool that allows users to obtain streamflow statistics, drainage-basin characteristics, and other information for user-selected sites on streams. StreamStats users can choose locations of interest from an interactive map and obtain information for these locations." (Data available for three states as of Aug 24, 2005.)


	Technology Transfer Automated Retrieval System (TEKTRAN) USDA. Agricultural Research Service. Selected pre-publication notices of recent research results from the Agricultural Research Service of the U.S. Department of Agriculture; not solely a water resources database.

	TOXMAP DHHS. National Library of Medicine. "A Geographic Information System from the National Library of Medicine that uses maps of the United States to help users visually explore data from the EPA's Toxics Release Inventory."

	University of Nebraska Water Quality Page University of Nebraska. The purpose of the University of Nebraska-Lincoln's Excellence in Water Quality Program is to provide high quality web-based information.

	USGS Ground-Water Data for the Nation DOI. United States Geological Survey. Provided by the National Water Information System (NWIS), this database consists of "more than 850,000 records of wells, springs, test holes, tunnels, drains, and excavations in the United States" --including latitude/longitude, well depth data, and aquifer descriptions. Surface water and water quality data are also available.

	USGS National Water Quality Assessment Data Warehouse DOI. United States Geological Survey. "Enables water resource managers, scientists, and the public to find data about the quality of the water at 2,800 stream sites and 5,000 wells in 46 states, according to the U. S. Geological Survey."

	Water Research University of Arizona. A searchable database of water-related research at the University of Arizona.

	Watershed Assessment, Tracking, and Environmental Results Environmental Protection Agency. "Unites water quality information that was previously available only from several independent and unconnected databases." Further description is available.

	WaterWeb Links Database WaterWeb Consortium. Provides links to water-related Web sites searchable by keyword(s), geographic location or language.

Web Soil Survey
