Studying Media & Culture in Peru

P.I. Reed School of Journalism students and faculty recently traveled to Peru as part of an International Media course. In addition to touring newsrooms and TV stations, they experienced Peruvian culture firsthand. They surfed the dunes of Ica on sand boards, hiked the ruins of Machu Picchu, and dined on local cuisine.

Examining Darwin’s Impact

WVU is celebrating the 200th birthday of Charles Darwin with DarwinFest, a series of talks and presentations examining the naturalist's work — from his travels to his influential theory on evolution. DarwinFest continues through April and features leading scholars and scientists from around the world.

One of the nation's first endowed professorships in public relations will enhance the education of P.I. Reed School of Journalism students now and well into the future. Generous donations from alumnus Scott Widmeyer (center); his parents, Douglas and Ruth Ann Widmeyer (left); and Widmeyer Communications funded the professorship and an endowed scholarship.

Making the Grade

Senior guard Alex Ruoff earned first-team ESPN The Magazine Academic All-America recognition, making him the fifth WVU men’s basketball player in six years to be named an Academic All-American. The history major from Spring Hill, Fla., was the only Big East player selected for any of the three teams.
