FANTASY
(Roslyn Nurs, Dix Hills, NY. Cat. p. 38. 1993): The hardiest
form of “Crape Myrtle” grows very vigorously into a large graceful
tree with fabulous, distinctive red exfoliating bark. This N.C. State Arboretum
selection blooms with white flowers during the summer. A specimen for all seasons.
Zone 6.
(Woody Plant Registration Form, U.S. National Arboretum, Washington,
DC. 1994): Narrow, vase-shaped,
25-35 o angle
growth habit; disease-free
foliage, excellent red bark, good display of white flowers. The original plant
has a trunk diameter ca. 3' and is 55' tall in 1994. L. fauriei cv.
A seedling selection made at the North Carolina State University Arboretum
in 1983. Original plants were distributed by the U.S. National Arboretum in
the late 1950's from a collection of the species in Japan by Dr. John Creech.
Name registered November 30, 1994.

quite similar to NEAR EAST.

vigorous grower; fls. deep red, holds color well and does not fade. Orig. as
chance seedling selected in 1957; named in 1958; trademarked State of Texas;
and intro. in 1958 by J.B. Fitzpatrick , Texas Nurs. Red Purple 63B 2.
