About Health InfoNet of Alabama
Health InfoNet of Alabama is a free consumer health information service of the Alabama public and medical libraries. It began in 1999 as a local service to Jefferson County residents, expanding to Shelby County in 2002 and the whole state in 2004. It was also in 2004 that Health InfoNet was chosen to participate in the MedlinePlus “Go Local” project, allowing users of the powerful, award-winning MedlinePlus health information site to link to Health InfoNet for local health services and resources around the state.
Through Health InfoNet of Alabama the public and medical libraries* of the state work together to provide quality sources of information to:
- answer your health questions
- connect you with support groups
- connect you with local and national associations
A primary focus of our efforts is the collections and services of the public libraries. With 207 libraries in Alabama, you will find upgraded health collections and highly trained staff (not to mention computers with Internet access) near you!
This website is designed as an extra service for online users and a gateway to quality information resources via MedlinePlus and local community health services via the Go Local program. If you don't find what you're looking for here, please call your local public library and ask for Health InfoNet assistance. We want to help you locate resources to answer your health questions! Check out the Alabama Public Library Service for a list of libraries in the state.
