On January 10, the theme will be "Finding Crabs in Winter: The life of a Chesapeake Crab in all seasons." Shifting Patterns: Birding on the Eastern Shore

A program presented by the Garden Club of the Eastern Shore, this panel of regional birders will be moderated by MD Ornithological President, Dr. Wayne Bell. FREE

Chesapeake Futures, Choices for the 21st Century

Jack Greer, an award winning scholar who writes about science and policy for the University of Maryland Sea Grant College Program, will outline the likely consequences of choices we are making today and their impact on the future of the Bay. World Wetlands Day
February 2, 4-5 p.m.

Celebrated for the first time in 1997, World Wetlands Day focuses on the relationship of wetlands and the communities in which they are situated. The theme for this year is "Upstream-Downstream: Wetlands Connect Us All." Families will learn about wetlands and participate in a special hands-on project. Space limited, pre-registration required. Building a Ship in a Bottle
Saturday, February 21st 9:30am-4:30pm

Join local model shipwright Jim Wortman of Talbot Street Ship Shop as he teaches the secrets to building your own skipjack model, then placing it in a bottle using the traditional methods. A supply list will be sent with your confirmation. Space limited to six people, pre-registration required. CBMM members $175, non-members $200

Lapstrake Skiff Class
Feb. 27, 6-9pm, Feb. 28 & Mar. 1, 9am-5pm
This model boatbuilding class features a 10" wooden rowing skiff with lapped side planking and a flat bottom. Thin-tapered, two-toned toothpicks are used along with fast-drying glue to fasten the models together. Space limited, pre-registration required. CBMM members $80, Non-members $90

On March 7 kids get a "Bird's Eye View: Looking Down on the Bay from Above." On March 21, the theme is "Marshes and the Environment: Learn About the Animals and Habitat of a Marsh" and March 28, "Little Hunters and Gatherers: Learn About the Skills and Culture of Chesapeake Native Americans." Space limited, pre-registration required. CBMM members $12, Non-members $15

Exhibit Host Training
March 9-11 , 10am-3pm each day
Van Lennep Auditorium, CBMM Steamboat Building

This three-day course teaches participants about the Museum, community history and storytelling and how to enhance the visitor experience. No experience is required and you need not have an extensive knowledge of the Bay or maritime activities-a desire to learn about the Bay and the time to commit to at least two shifts each month are the only requirements. The Museum is particularly in need of weekend volunteers. FREE. Limited to 16 participants. Boater's Safety Courses
(Course A) March 10 & 11, 6-10pm
(Course B) March 24 & 25, 6-10pm

Any Maryland boater born after July 1, 1972, is required to have a Certificate of Boating Safety Education in order to operate a vessel. Participants completing the course and passing the test will receive this Certificate. The course is also recommended for anyone looking to become a safer, more experienced boater. The course is offered over two consecutive evenings. Space limited, pre-registration required. $25 Certification/Course fee.

Half-Hull Model Class
March 28-29, 9am-5pm
Mitchell House on CBMM campus

Work with the Museum's Model Guild instructors to create a Pride of Baltimore half-hull model. The end product will become a beautiful wall-hanging in your home. Participants should be at least 12 years old. CBMM members $80, non-members $90

The Chesapeake's version of Earth Day, with 50 organizations and programs about the Bay's ecology.

Enjoy a variety of delectable foods, wines, and cooking demonstrations by celebrity chefs!

Big Band Night
Saturday, July 4, 7-10pm
Enjoy big band sounds and stay into the evening to enjoy the St. Michaels fireworks over the Miles River.

Chesapeake Folk Festival

Enjoy Chesapeake regional foods, demonstrations, and crafts with people who have worked on the Bay.
