About Boat Donations & Sales | Boats for Sale

Donate or Buy a Boat

To go directly to our listing of boats for sale, click here.

Donating a boat to the Museum, a non-profit organization, can give you a tax-deduction based on the value of your boat. An unwanted or rarely used boat takes a lot of time and money to keep up-from slip fees, hauling, to general maintenance. We receive donations of vessels of all makes and sizes and we offer them for sale throughout the year, as well as at our boat auction in the fall. Sales of these boats support ongoing programs and annual operations.

We make the process of donating a boat hassle-free. There is not a lot of paperwork involved and our Boat Donations manager Lad Mills can guide you through the process in a matter of minutes. When the boat is sold, you will receive a tax benefit based on its value. For more information on your potential tax deduction, you should contact your tax advisor.

Beyond taking an unused or unwanted boat off of your hands, and getting a nice tax deduction, donating your boat to the Museum allows us to further our mission of preserving the heritage of the Chesapeake Bay. Revenue generated by the sale of your boat goes into the operating funds that allow us to hold school programs, youth Lighthouse Overnights, and to restore historic vessels, such as Bay skipjacks. Your boat makes a difference to us.

If you are looking to buy a boat, this is the time and place to buy it-and for a fraction of the cost of buying a new or used boat at retail. We receive boats throughout the year, ranging in size and function from sailing dinghies to cabin cruisers, from canoes to crabbing skiffs.

So if you are interested in donating or buying a boat, or if you would like more information about the program, contact Boat Donations Program Manager Lad Mills at at 410-745-2916 ext. 112, or by email at lmills@cbmm.org.
