Coffee County

Created 1836 from Bedford, Warren and Franklin counties; named in honor of John Coffee (1772-1833), Creek War and War of 1812 cavalry commander, frontiersman, congressionaly-appointed surveyor-general, land dealer and prosperous planter.

Did You Know?Arnold Engineering Development Center, a U.S. Air Force establishment, is located in Coffee County. It is world renown for it aerospace test capibilities. As President Harry Truman said during his dedication speech, "The scientists who work here will explore what lies on the other side of the speed of sound."
