Logistical Information

Meeting Location:
The meeting will be held at the Natcher Conference Center on the National Institutes of Health (NIH) Campus in Bethesda, Maryland. Participants may travel to the Natcher Conference Center by taking the Bethesda Metro Red Line to the Medical Center Metro Station (one stop). Natcher Conference Center, which is located in Building 45 and is part of the National Library of Medicine, is about a 10-15 minute walk from the Metro. You also may board a Campus Shuttle bus from the Metro Station that will take you to the Natcher Conference Center.

Ground Transportation

Taking the Metro rail:
Metro rail service is available from Washington’s National Airport and from Union Station (railway). Take Metro’s Red Line to the Medical Center Station. The station’s escalators come out on the NIH campus. To get to Building 45, Natcher Conference Center, walk from the top of the escalators past the bus stops down South Drive. Take the path up the hill to the Building

The Metro system is clean and reliable. It operates from 5:00 a.m. to 12:00 midnight, Monday through Thursday; 5:00 a.m. to 3:00 a.m. on Friday; 7:00 a.m. to 3:00 a.m. on Saturday; and 7:00 a.m. to 12:00 midnight on Sunday. Each passenger must buy a fare card to travel in the system. Guides for purchasing fare cards are posted on the vending machines in each station. Each Metro car features a complete color-coded map. Station attendants on duty at each station can provide additional information upon request.

Parking Information
Visitor Parking is extremely difficult to find at NIH, so if at all possible, take public transportation. There is a Metro station on the NIH campus with shuttle bus service to the main buildings. Short-term, metered parking and long term, attendant-controlled parking are available to visitors at a cost of $2 per hour for the first three hours or $12 per day. There is free, validated parking for patients and visitors to patients in the Clinical Center.

Ground Transportation from Local Airports

From Baltimore-Washington International Airport (BWI)
Take the Baltimore-Washington Parkway south toward Washington, DC. At I-495 (Capital Beltway), head west toward Silver Spring/Bethesda. From the Beltway (I-495), take Exit 34 which is Rt. 355 (Wisconsin Ave./Rockville Pike) and head south toward Washington/Bethesda. At the fourth traffic light, turn right at Wilson Drive and follow the signs to Visitor Parking.

From Dulles International Airport

Head east on the Dulles Airport Access Road for approximately 13 miles. Exit onto I-495 (Capital Beltway), heading north to Bethesda/Baltimore. From the Beltway (I-495), take Exit 34 which is Rt. 355 (Wisconsin Ave./Rockville Pike) and head south toward Washington/Bethesda.
At the third traffic light, turn right at Wilson Drive and follow the signs to Visitor Parking.

From Ronald Reagan National Airport
Head North on the George Washington Parkway for approximately 5 miles. Exit onto I-495 (Capital Beltway), heading north to Maryland. From the Beltway (I-495), take Exit 34 which is Rt. 355 (Wisconsin Ave./Rockville Pike) and head South toward Washington/Bethesda. At the second traffic light, turn right onto Cedar Lane; drive approximately 1/4 mile and turn left onto West Drive to enter the NIH campus.

Driving Directions

From Baltimore and All Points North of Washington, DC
Take I-95 south toward Washington, DC. At I-495 (Capital Beltway), head west toward Silver Spring/Bethesda. From the Beltway (I-495), take Exit 34 which is Rt. 355 (Wisconsin Ave./Rockville Pike) and head south toward Washington/Bethesda. At the third traffic light, turn right onto Cedar Lane; drive approximately 1/4 mile and turn left onto West Drive to enter the NIH campus.

Take I-95 south toward Washington, DC. At I-495 (Capital Beltway), head west toward Silver Spring/Bethesda. From the Beltway (I-495), take Exit 36 (Old Georgetown Road), heading south for about 2 miles. Turn left into the NIH campus at Center Drive.

From Virginia and All Points South of Washington, DC
Take I-95 north toward Washington, DC. At I-495 (Capital Beltway), head north toward Silver Spring/Bethesda. From the Beltway (I-495), take Exit 34 which is Rt. 355 (Wisconsin Ave./Rockville Pike) and head south toward Washington/Bethesda. At the second traffic light, turn right onto Cedar Lane; drive approximately 1/4 mile and turn left onto West Drive to the NIH campus.

From the Beltway (I-495), take Exit 36 (Old Georgetown Road), heading south for about 2 miles. Turn left into the NIH campus at Center Drive.  Follow the signs first towards Visitor security.  Upon leaving the security area, follow campus signs to Building 45.

Taxicab fares to the hotel from Washington Dulles International Airport (IAD) and Ronald Reagan National Airport (DCA) should be approximately $40.00 to $45.00 one-way for one passenger. The fare from Baltimore/Washington International Airport (BWI) is approximately $70.00 one-way. It is advisable to check on the fares before selecting a taxicab.
