Closing of Facility Due to Adverse Weather or Other Conditions

NCI-FREDERICK EMPLOYEES

When early morning inclement weather conditions indicate the possible closure or delayed opening of NCI-Frederick, call the Fort Detrick Telenews (301-619-7611) or  listen to local radio/television stations for information. Attachment A lists relevant phone numbers and radio/television stations.

Closing
When Fort Detrick is closed, NCI-Frederick also is closed. When Fort Detrick has a delayed opening, NCI-Frederick also has a delayed opening.
Remember: NCI-Frederick does not follow weather closing or delayed opening advisories for the NIH-Bethesda campus or Washington metropolitan area.

Early Dismissal
If NCI-Frederick closes during working hours, supervisors will notify employees as to when they should leave. For early dismissal, NCI-Frederick operates independently of Fort Detrick; therefore, employees should not rely on the Fort Detrick Telenews or radio broadcasts.

Essential Personnel
In the event of delayed opening or closure of NCI-Frederick, each contractor is responsible for identifying essential personnel and providing essential services; non-essential personnel are asked to not come to work.

Inclement Weather Condition Absences

NCI-Frederick contractors shall manage absences due to inclement weather conditions in accordance with their established policy.

Reasonable Accommodation

Reasonable accommodation should also be provided during inclement weather and other emergencies for employees with disabilities.  NCI-Frederick contractors shall provide reasonable accommodation for such employees in accordance with their established policy.

Snow Removal and Parking

Essential personnel should park only in plowed parking lots and avoid areas where snow removal is in progress. Please remember that snowplows have the right-of-way and personnel may be requested to move their vehicles as required for snow removal.  Vehicles that interfere with snow removal operations or obstruct traffic may be towed at the owner's risk and expense.  Due to increased security concerns and limited parking spaces, employees are encouraged to remove their vehicles from the post at the end of the day.

These guidelines also apply to those NCI-Frederick employees located at off-site locations in Frederick County, Maryland,  NCI-Frederick employees located at NIH Bethesda or other Montgomery County , Maryland sites should follow guidelines for the NIH Bethesda campus.
