For Patients: State Of
The Art Treatment
The Neuro-Oncology Branch is dedicated to the treatment of
adults and children with brain tumors. Since the branch is affiliated
with both the National Cancer Institute (NCI) and the National
Institute of Neurological Diseases and Stroke (NINDS), we
are able to provide an interdisciplinary approach to the treatment
of brain tumors. An example of this interdisciplinary approach
is our weekly multidisciplinary Brain Tumor Clinic.
Clinicians in the Neuro-Oncology Clinic conduct clinical
trials of novel therapies for patients with brain tumors that
can only be found at the NIH. Additionally, clinicians actively
participating in the National Cancer Institute sponsored North
American Brain Tumor Consortium (NABTC), New Approaches to
Brain Tumor Therapy (NABTT), and Pediatric Brain Tumor Consortium
(PBTC). Through their participation in these collaborative
groups, Neuro-Oncology Branch Physicians are capable of combining
and focusing the experience, resources and capabilities of
many outstanding medical Institutions throughout the country.
In addition to seeing patients at the National Institutes
of Health, the Neuro-Oncology Branch reviews cases for patients
who live at a distance from our facilities, and are interested
in getting a second opinion or learning about a specific clinical
trial.
