CLINICAL CENTER NURSING |
||
The Clinical Center Nursing Research Program enhances nursing knowledge through independent and collaborative research conducted by Clinical Center nurses. Nursing research projects reflect a commitment to the Clinical Center's research mission and ongoing contributions to excellence in protocol-specific patient care, patient and investigator services and research training.
The nursing research portfolio at the Clinical Center is a combination of studies responding to program priorities and studies that are investigator-initiated, often arising from a clinical problem confronted by the clinical staff or from questions that emerge when a nurse is a collaborator on a medical study. Study questions may also arise from the process of reviewing and evaluating evidence when considering a practice change or responding to data indicating there is a potential problem in clinical care. Nurses in the early phases of involvement with research are encouraged to become actively involved in their interdisciplinary team and take credit for their contributions through presentation or publication. Staff may also be directed towards a research utilization project, which provides training and experience in assessment of research evidence and replication or clinical simulation. Program priorities for nursing research at the Clinical Center include health behavior and symptom management, health disparities, and health-related quality of life. The nursing research program also provides guidance to the nursing staff and interdisciplinary consultation in the areas of clinical outcomes assessment and program evaluation.
