On the Cover | Although substantial improvements in health, particularly in children’s health, have come about as a result of the banning of leaded gasoline, lead remains a health hazard for subpopulations of both children and adults. In the United States, new research is looking at effects of lead at low doses in adults. This month’s Focus (p. A30) examines these findings and presents the debate over how far remediation should go to protect people against potential effects of this weighty metal.
