Animal Care and Use Program

Mission Statement
The Animal Care and Use Program of the Office of the Director is responsible for directing animal care and use at the Intramural Research Program of the National Institute on Drug Abuse, and for providing animal research support services to the various branches of the intramural research program. The Program also provides advice, guidance, and consultative services to scientific and administrative staff of the Institute.



Program Areas
Complete animal procurement, husbandry and veterinary care, and animal research support activities, including the provision of trained technical animal research personnel and the management and operation of the NIDA Animal Care and Use Committee.

Synopsis of Research
Collaborative research is conducted with intramural Branches specifically to address the needs of NIDA scientists for improved animal experimental methodologies and to improve the efficiency and quality of animal program management.
