New Products/Services that Anticipate the Future

New products and services that anticipate customers’ future needs are ten times more predictive of success than new products and services that simply respond to customer requests.

As you identify now product/service opportunities for your company, MEP can assist with market research, prototyping and testing, product development, and getting products to market.

Lean Product Development

The best way to reduce costs and speed the time to market for new products is to focus on the elimination of non-value-added waste in the design of the products and in the new product development business processes.

Lean Product Development is a powerful approach that is proven to reduce costs and accelerate time-to-market for the development and delivery of new products and services.

To achieve this waste-slashing capability, MEP has adapted one of the most powerful and successful improvement philosophies of the last decade and applied it to the process of product development.

Our services include Lean Design, a powerful, integrated set of team-friendly tools to slash manufacturing costs at all levels and Lean Product Development, a practical approach to accelerating time-to-market through aggressive waste elimination in the planning, resource management, design control, and interdisciplinary communication business processes.

Technology Deployment

As NIST MEP transitions into its next generation of operations and service offerings, its focus will expand to emphasize both the proven suite of bottom-line services that help manufacturing companies thrive by increasing productivity and decreasing costs, as well as an innovative approach to generating opportunities for top-line growth

At the center of the Next Generation MEP approach is the development and implementation of a nationwide technology deployment system.  This technology deployment system will catalyze manufacturer innovation for applications in products, processes, services, and new business models.  MEP technology deployment will build upon the increased efficiencies generated by MEP’s bottom-line services and growth opportunities identified by companies in conjunction with its Eureka! Winning Ways (E!WW) service offerings.  These growth opportunities will in many instances involve the translation of technologies produced by and available at the nation’s technology sources, such as the NIST Laboratories, other Federal R&D laboratories, research university laboratories, and the private sector R&D capabilities.

Successful implementation of the MEP technology deployment capability will be dependent upon the translation of technologies into meaningful business terms that are understandable by small manufacturers.   It will connect small manufacturers with sophisticated R&D labs in a bilateral way where technologies produced by research labs will be matched with manufacturer capabilities and growth opportunities, as well as where manufacturer needs are also connected with potential technology solutions developed within the research laboratories.
