How can I get free publications?
You can get one free copy of most of our publications through our online catalog.
What costs money?
If you need bulk quantities, there are small shipping and handling fees. Fees will vary depending on the publication. When you select a title and quantity, the system will automatically display any applicable fee.
These fees can be paid online by using Visa, Mastercard, American Express or Discover cards.
You may order a combination of free and for-a-fee publications during the same online session.

Is there an easy way to look at all the publications you offer?
Yes. From the catalog home page at http://catalog.nei.nih.gov/, click Titles A—Z on the left, and then hit List All. This will bring up all our publications. To find out more details about each publication just click on More Info.

What if the publication I want is not listed?
All publications that are currently in inventory and available for ordering are listed. Materials that are temporarily out-of stock will have a special notation.

How is my order sent to me?
Orders are sent through the US Postal Service and generally take 2-3 weeks.

Can I get my publications sooner than 2-3 weeks?
Yes. NEI now offers a rush order service for orders placed through the online catalog.
The cost for rush orders is $50.00 regardless the number of publications ordered. Rush deliveries will be sent by 2nd Day Air. The rush delivery fee is in addition to the regular charges for shipping and handling.
Using the 2nd Day Air service, the orders will be delivered on the second business day if placed before 1:00 p.m Eastern Time, Monday through Friday (except federal holidays). Our shipping company does not deliver to U.S. territories, military postal addresses or post office boxes.

Are your publications copyrighted?
No. Our publications are not copyrighted and may be reproduced without permission. However, we do ask that credit be given to the National Eye Institute, National Institutes of Health.

Do you ship materials outside the United States?
No. International orders are not available at this time, we only mail to locations in the United States and U.S. territories. However, most of our publications can be viewed online in full-text.

What about security on your website?
The security of the information included in your order is very important to us. We use the 128-bit Secure Socket Layer protocol to protect the security of your online order information. SSL technology encrypts your order information so it cannot be decoded by anyone other than NEI and contracted companies.
Once you enter the checkout page, your computer will begin communicating with our server in secure mode. You can tell that you are in secure mode by the following:
The "http" in the web address will be replaced by "https"
You will see either a padlock (Microsoft Internet Explorer, AOL, Netscape Communicator) or a solid key (Netscape Navigator) in the lower section of the browser window.
Only browsers that use the 128-bit Secure Socket Layer protocol are able to order through the NEI website. If your browser does not support SSL, you can get an upgrade at Microsoft's or Netscape's home page.
Under Fair Credit Billing Act, your bank limits your total loss and cannot hold you liable for more than 50 dollars of reported fraudulent charges. In the event your card is used in a fraudulent manner, you must notify your bank or card issuer immediately and in accordance with its reporting rules and procedures.
