United States and Ireland Agreement

Ireland has one of the highest incidence and mortality rates for cancer in the Western world. The tri-national Memorandum of Understanding between the Republic of Ireland, Northern Ireland, and the United States is intended to address this problem through training and collaborative research. The agreement has thus far resulted in a fellowship program to immerse Irish scientists in NCI's cancer research program in the areas of cancer epidemiology, cancer registration, and biostatistics. During the first year of the agreement, two Fellows received extensive training and performed a number of collaborative research projects at NCI's Surveillance Research Program.
