1999 Title 42 Service Fellowship Program Stipend Ranges*

(42 U.S.C. Section 209(g) and 209(h), and 42 C.F.R. Part 61 B)

(Effective January 3, 1999)

The Director, NIH approved 1999 comparability stipend increases for service fellowship employees by memorandum dated January 13, 1999. IC Directors are authorized to raise the 1998 rates of pay for NIH Service Fellowship Program appointees by the same percentage of increase provided to the basic nationwide General Schedule (i.e., 3.1 percent).

1999 IC Stipend Range: $54,000 - $118,400

(Based on pay range for GS-13/1, rounded to next higher $1,000, ~ EX-IV)

In keeping with current delegations of authority, IC Directors may approve stipend levels up to Executive Level IV (i.e., $118,400). The Deputy Directors for Intramural and Extramural Research may approve stipends levels in excess of Executive Level IV, within respective areas of responsibilities. The Director, NIH retains authority to approve exceptions to ranges which exceed Executive Level II (currently $136,700) and stipend increases that result in an increase of $20,000 or more, including initial stipends or stipend adjustments.
