Washington, D.C. – Congresswoman Dina Titus of Nevada’s Third District took the oath of office today at Noon during the opening ceremony of the 111th Congress on the floor of the House of Representatives. Titus, who represents the district comprised of Henderson, Boulder City, and the outlying communities of Clark County, said she is ready to get to work on behalf of Southern Nevada.
“I am honored by the trust the people of the Third Congressional District have placed in me, and I will work day in and day out to live up to the enormous responsibility of representing them here in Congress,” Titus said. “Nevada faces serious challenges that require real leadership and action. I stand ready on day one to fight to create jobs, invest in the renewable energy that will power our state, and address the rising costs from health care to education that are weighing on Nevada’s families.”
Titus was joined at the ceremonial swearing-in ceremony by her husband Thomas Wright, her mother Betty Titus, and her sister Rho Hudson.
As the newest member of the Nevada delegation, Titus comes to Washington, D.C. after representing the people of Nevada in the State Senate, where she served as Minority Leader for 15 years. A resident of Nevada for more than three decades, Titus has taught political science at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas for more than 30 years.
