Need for local surveillance information
The need for local surveillance systems to detect and monitor disease trends is an essential component towards preventing the spread of antimicrobial resistance. State-based personnel are increasingly interested in surveillance options that allow for valid estimates of their antimicrobial resistance problem. The meeting will include plenary and breakout sessions to address:

  • Importance of monitoring of drug resistant Streptococcus pneumoniae, Staphylococcus aureus, Neisseria gonorrhoeae, and foodborne pathogens

  • Considerations in designing an optimal system with limited resources

  • Analysis and interpretation of surveillance data

  • Communication of findings with partners

  • Sharing of state-level surveillance experiences

  • Identifying unmet needs of state and local health departments
