Who manages Yaquina Head Outstanding Natural Area?

When is the area open?

The area is open to the public from dawn to dusk 365 days a year.

Is there a fee to enter the area?

A $5.00 fee for vehicles with up to 9 passengers is good for three consecutive days. Yearly passes and federal recreation passes are also available. "Oregon's Pacific Coast Passport" which allows for Free Day Use Access to Yaquina Head Outstanding Natural Area, Fort Clatsop National Park, Cape Perpetua Scenic Area, the Oregon Dunes National Recreation Area and all of the Oregon State Parks on the coast can be purchased at Yaquina Head. Two passports are available: An annual pass which sells for $35.00 (half the price of annual passes to each individual location) and A Five Day Pass for $10.00.

It is the tallest on the Oregon coast at 93 feet. Our tours allow you to go up 110 of the 114 steps to view the First Order Fresnel lens.

Do you have an Interpretive Center?

Yes we do. It has exhibits on the cultural and natural resources found at Yaquina Head, an Interpretive Store, and much more.

When is the center open?

Summer from 10 am to 5 pm, and winter 10 am to 4 pm.

Do you see whales?

The California Gray Whale is a common sight. We also see Killer Whales (Orcas) a couple of times during the spring months.

What about nesting seabirds?

We get over 25,000 nesting birds during the spring and summer. They include tufted puffins. common murres and cormorants to name a few.

Do you have volunteers?

Yes, we have volunteers from the local community, and we have host volunteers with RVs that stay one or two months. We couldn't operate the area without them.
