Instruments: Near Infrared Camera (NIRCam)

NIRCam The Near Infrared Camera (NIRCam), provided by the University of Arizona is an imager with a large field of view and high angular resolution. The NIRCam covers a wavelength range of 0.6 to 5 micrometers and has ten mercury-cadmium-telluride (HgCdTe) detector arrays. These are analogous to CCDs found in ordinary digital cameras. The NIRCam is a science instrument but also an Optical Telescope Element wavefront sensor, which provides something similar to instant LASIK vision correction.

For more information, please visit the NIRCam website at the Space Telescope Science Institute: http://www.stsci.edu/jwst/instruments/nircam/
