Unbuilding for the Environment John S. Manuel Abstract Around the United States construction and waste engineers are tuning in to getting the most out of buildings that have outlived their usefulness. Proponents of deconstruction, the systematic disassembly of structures (commercial as well as residential) , anticipate an "unbuilding" boom as more and more people become aware of the potential human health, environmental, and economic benefits of tearing down old buildings and reusing the often significant amounts of materials salvaged during the process.
