Provides an Efficient Method for Hiring. When an agency has a severe shortage of candidates or has a critical hiring need, direct hire provides a quick way to hire individuals into the Competitive Civil Service (GS-15 and below or equivalent) in permanent or nonpermanent positions.
Addresses Recruitment Challenges. Sometimes emergency or unanticipated situations develop, requiring an agency to mobilize immediately to address them. Direct hire lets agencies do this. In other situations, an agency has diligently recruited using sound practices but still cannot find enough candidates to fill certain positions.
